K-FLEX TITAN

K-FLEX TITAN is a flexible, co-extruded jacketed composite insulation designed to provide high durability and weather resistance for outdoor piping systems. It combines a closed-cell elastomeric foam core with a factory-applied polymeric jacket, eliminating the need for additional protective coatings or field-applied jacketing.

Key Features and Benefits:

  • Superior Weather Resistance: Provides excellent UV protection and resists damage from rain and extreme temperatures without the need for field-applied paint or cladding.
  • Mechanical Durability: The proprietary copolymer jacket protects against mechanical abuse, including incidental impacts from lawn equipment like weed whackers.
  • One-Step Installation: Designed for quick application, the material is highly flexible and can be “pushed, pulled, or yanked through walls” without tearing.
  • Thermal Efficiency: Features a low thermal conductivity and an expanded closed-cell structure that inherently resists moisture vapor intrusion, preventing condensation and energy loss.
  • Code Compliance: Meets 2012–2021 IECC residential and commercial code requirements for outdoor exposure and carries an ASTM E84 25/50 fire rating (up to 1″ thickness).

Common Applications:

  • HVAC Linesets: Ideal for protecting outdoor refrigerant lines in residential and commercial systems.
  • VRF Systems: Rated for continuous service temperatures up to 220°F (104°C) with spikes up to 250°F (121°C), meeting the requirements of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) specifications.
  • Direct Burial: Can be used in direct burial applications if the lines are above the water table and installed within a PVC conduit to prevent compaction.
  • Flexible Hose Protection: Used to enhance the weather and abuse resistance of various flexible hose applications.

Technical Specifications:

According to official product data from kflex.com:
  • Temperature Range: Standard K-FLEX TITAN is rated from -70°F (-57°C) up to +220°F (+104°C).
  • Vapor Permeability: The jacket material has a vapor permeance of ≤0.05 perms, acting as a Class I vapor retarder.
  • UV Resistance: Successfully tested to 5,000 hours under ASTM G154 artificial aging with no deterioration to the surface condition.
